By Kari Langslet

The best free events happening July 20th-22nd, compiled by Nooklyn Agent Kari Langslet.

The World Cup might be over, but there’s still plenty to do this weekend. Grab your sunglasses, a few friends, and skip the sunscreen because we’ve got you covered! (Just kidding, don’t do that.)

Friday, July 20th, 2018

Outdoor Screening: Fences (W 135th St Plaza in Saint Nicholas Park, Manhattan) 6:00–10:00 p.m.

Oh Denzel! You get me every time. If you haven’t checked out this award-winning film, now is your opportunity (check out the trailer here). As always, get there early before the good seats are taken.

Outdoor Screening: Coco (Basil Behagen Playground, Bronx) 8:30–10:30 p.m.

Coco is hands down the best Disney movie. Charming characters, vibrant imagery, and amazing storyline. Oh — the music too! This is a wonderful film to watch with friends, young ones, or family.

DJ Set: 143 Feat SoSuperSam, SIIK & Friends (Schimanski, Brooklyn) 10:00 p.m.

Get your groove on in Williamsburg with SOSUPERSAM, a Los Angeles DJ, vocalist, and performing artist. She combines new underground sounds with rap and classic hip. If you’re there early, head up to the roofdeck of the Wythe Hotel next door to watch the sun set over the New York City skyline. Ahhhhhh.

Live Music: Blondie, Liz Phair, Sasami (House of Vans, Brooklyn) 8:00 p.m.

House of Vans in Greenpoint is a Brooklyn favorite0-awesome shows, food, beer, and SKATING! And, pinch us, Blondie will be performing. BLONDIE! Free with RSVP, but get there reeeeeeally early, because people will start queuing up around the block (it’s first come, first serve).

Comedy: Various Artists (Oppa, Manhattan) 7:30 p.m.

In these crazy times, we could all use a laugh. A free comedy show featuring talent from Comedy Central, TruTv, NBC, and more. Doors open at 7 p.m., show begins promptly at 7.30.

DJ Set: In The Dark #4: DJ Haram, Hunter Lombard, DJ Wawa (Bossa Nova, Brooklyn) 10:00 p.m.

If you want to go out dancing and are self conscious about that giant zit on your forehead, don’t fret! It’s so dark inside Bossa Nova that no one will ever see it. Cool and trendy, this is a top spot for a late night of debauchery. Free before 10:00 p.m.

Music Festival: Louis Armstrong’s Wonderful World Festival (Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens) 2:00 p.m.

It’s a wonderful world, especially when there are awesome festivals to attend! Check out the Wonderful World Festival in Queens for an awesome line-up that includes Queens rapper Action Bronson and eight-piece brass ensemble The Soul Rebels from New Orleans.

Live Music: Brimstone & Glory w/ Live Score by Wordless Music Orchestra/ Sonido Gallo Negro (Prospect Park Bandshell, Brooklyn) 8:45–10:15 p.m.

Prospect Park is absolutely beautiful to visit any day, but even better when there’s free music! Enjoy the park during daytime hours and hike over to the bandshell for some gorgeous orchestral sounds.

DJ Set: Eli Escobar x Elio Stereo (Black Flamingo, Brooklyn) 10:00 p.m.

Black Flamingo doesn’t only have the best vegan Mexican food (we dream about the fajitas), it also has the coolest ambiance. Treat yourself to a scrumptious dinner (did I mention the fajitas?) and dance it off.
